Short & Sweet Festival 2008 E-mail

Until February 23, 2008
The world's biggest festival of ten-minute theatre, Short+Sweet is on its seventh year and is going strong. Happening at Sydney's Newtown Theater and Seymore Centre, Short+Sweet opened this year on January 16 but continues to run until the 23rd, and we promise you and your love with enjoy a Valentine treat there.

Short+Sweet features more than a hundred ten-minutes plays by local and international writers. Ten different plays are presented each week. As with the regular film festivals, Short+Sweet ends with a gala final and an awards night. The panel of judges will give out more than $32,000 worth of prizes.

The festival usually issues a call for submissions from playwrights and independent theatre companies, receiving more than 1,200 scripts last year. After a period of assessment, a shortlist of plays to be performed is drafted. Directors, both new and established, get to sink their teeth into one material each and start casting with actors hired from the Short+Sweet  auditions.

In the last seven years, Short+Sweet has helped launch the careers of many of Sydney's theater professionals, and it is no wonder that many of Sydney and Melbourne's young and established actors, directors, and technical people continue to support the production.
