Kirsty Martin, a principal artist in The Australian Ballet, loves the uniqueness of Australian dance and is looking forward to Season 2008. 2008 offers an exciting, diverse repertoire featuring both contemporary and classical styles including Swan Lake, Giselle and Manon.
Kirsty has been dancing for 11 years with The Australian Ballet,
starting when she was 19, before spending two years dancing in Holland
and returning to the dance company in July 2002. “There is a very
diverse repertoire and style. The Australian style is unique, it’s a
mixture of art and athleticism which is nowhere else in the World”, she
said. Kirsty has been lucky enough to work with some of the best
choreographers including Stanton Welch and Stephen Baynes who both
created roles specifically for her. In both experiences she felt she
grew as a dancer having valuable studio time. Being 100 per cent
focused in the studio, both choreographers worked with her natural
style and movement making her feel the character was part of her.
Always being on the move can be hard with a child but for Kirsty,
having dance will always be a part of her life in one form or another.
