Celebrate Australia's rich history, visit the Centennial Parklands, the name given to a group of heritage-filled parks consisting of Moore, Centennial, and Queens Parks.
Centennial Park was originally a swampland known as Lachlan Swamps, but is now home to vast expanses of grass, ornamental plants, pines, and native forest. Federation Pavilion, site of the first proclamation of the Commonwealth of Australia on Jan. 1, 1901, is found at Centennial Park. It was dedicated in Jan. 1888 to celebrate the first 100 years of British settlement of Australia, hence it was named Centennial.
The Queens Parks, originally a part of Lachlan Swamps Water Reserve, is located 6 kilometres east of Sydney's central business district. Many of the houses in Queens Park date from the Victorian period.
