Paddy's Markets is the place to find inexpensive clothing, shoes, CDs electronics and takeaway food. It is open from Thursday through Sunday, including public holidays. Paddy's origin as a distinct market is historically rich. It dates back to 1834 when Governor Bourke made the decision to move the traders in hay and grain to a site adjoining the new cattle market on Campbell Street, Sydney. That administrative move created a split among stallholders within the "fringe" market on George Street that was vacated by the hay and grain traders. Some of these stallholders had regular customers among the cattlemen and hay and grain growers, so when the hay and grain traders moved, the stallholders also moved to join them. The majority of the stallholders, however, stayed on at the George Street market. The place the traders occupied became the Haymarket area. Food sellers and second hand dealers also did a good trade, both in the market house vicinity and around the Haymarket pubs. Visit Paddy’s at corner Hay & Thomas Streets, Haymarket. Opening hours is from: 9am - 5pm, Thursday to Sunday. To reach the place, the nearest public transport is through Town Hall or Central Railway Stations, Sydney Explorer Bus Stop 17, Light Rail Stops.
