Just look at the host of gorgeous recent celebrity weddings - Eva Longoria & Tony Parker’s grand, castle wedding in Paris, James Packer & Erica Baxter’s seaside wedding in the French Riviera and Rod Stewart & Penny Lancaster’s intimate Italian island wedding. So much glamour and romance, it’s every woman’s dream.

The biggest trend for 2007-2008 is personalising your wedding and creating a unique, individual style which reflects both of you, as a couple. Brides & grooms are no longer sticking to the traditional interpretation of a wedding. Whether you’re a sophisticated bride with a sexy designer gown, cocktail lounge reception and an A-list guest or an eco-friendly bride with sand between your toes, organic food and invitations made from recycled paper, the key is making sure your wedding mirrors your personality.

Wedding themes aren’t the only changing trend. Times have changed, once it was expected to ask the bride’s farther for permission to marry his daughter. These days, according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics:
- 75% of couples now live together before their wedding compared with just 16% in the 1970s.
- 58% of couples opt for a civil ceremony compared with 39% in the 1980’s.
- The average age of marriage for women is 29 and for men 31, compared with 1981 when it was 23 for women and 26 for men.
When it comes to money, there is a growing trend for couples to be the main contributors to their wedding. Most couples are now contributing 75% of the total cost while parents contribute the remaining 25%. The average wedding now costs well over $30,000 and can reach hundreds of thousands of dollars! With figures like these, no wonder couples are extending the length of their engagement, to save up for the big event. Today, on average, couples are engaged for 17 months before their special day.
When it comes to planning your wedding, no matter what statistics say, it is important to remember that the significance of this day is the celebration of your love for each other. The more your wedding reflects you as a couple - your personalities, passions, hopes & dreams - the more your wedding day will be remembered as best day of your life.
